ANDREW ROBSON
Sadly Launceston RC has lost one of its rugby sons, Andrew Robson.
Andrew known as Griz to his friends because of his bear-like strength, was originally from Cannaframe Farm, Altanun and started his playing days here at Launceston in the late 1970’s, incredibly playing for the first team, in the second row at the age of 16.
He was one of the original members that reformed the Colts. He went on to play for Cornwall aged 18 and also won honours/captained England Colts. Many of his fellow players said he was ahead of his time and went on to play for Plymouth Albion, he could have gone to the top had it not been for a serious knee injury.
Later he moved to a farm Breock Downs and finished his career playing for Wadebridge Camels before emigrating with his family to a farm in Manitoba, Canada where he went on to coach rugby to the Canadians.
There is still a strong family connection today as his great nephew and two great nieces play for the club.
Andrew lost his brave battle against Motor Neurone Disease recently, passing away on his farm in Canada.
There will be a minute’s silence to remember him at the Barnstaple game at Polson on 22nd March.
