A brilliant start to the new season began at 11.30 with the Ladies taking on Ivybridge who only last year were two leagues above them. The match was ferociously fought and although Ivybridge won 5 – 27 everyone agreed it had been a fantastic hard fought match with things to take away on both sides. The Launceston Ladies start their campaign in earnest next week with a home league match against Newton Abbot. The picture shows Launceston’s delight at their try!

There were plenty of spectators to witness this and also to watch the first men’s league match at it was Sponsors’ Day at Polson – always a large and enthusiastic crowd who the club wish to thank for all their valued support throughout the year. At 3.00 the CABs kicked off against Brixham, a team they have found virtually impossible to beat in the past. A hugely hard fought and entertaining match played out (see Match report) and in the end the CABs took the glory and a hardwon 5 points to start their league campaign. A few new faces were introduced and proved their worthy inclusion in the team and “Man of the Match” – well always a hard choice but the Sponsors decided to award it jointly to the two wingers – Zerran Hammond and Ollie Bebbington. The main picture shows them being congratulated by the Club Chairman Andrew Crichton and Club President Susan Jamieson.

It was also an opportunity for the Black Pack to meet up with their sponsored players Alex Bartlett and Tom Bottoms.

And to round things off nicely the news came through that the Castles who made a trip down to Roseland won 10 – 20. A great start to the season which is set to be a very exciting but very challenging one for all our teams.
