44 - 36

(HT 0-0)

Royal Wootton Bassett RFC

The decent sized crowd certainly got full value for their entrance fee with a point a minute game and even more importantly a home win and five points in the bag for the CABs. The team needed a sharp response, following last week's below par performance, and the day started with the late withdrawal of captain Lloyd Duke with a neck injury, sustained in training. The sharp response did not include being 12-3 down after about 10 minutes.

A couple of brilliantly executed kicks, from the RWB 10, led to the home side conceding two tries. In fact, the RWB 10 gave a masterful display of kicking from hand all day and caused some real issues to the home defence. The home side were really struggling to get their game going - loose passes, unnecessary penalties at the breakdown and just not settling into the pre-discussed gameplan and then up stepped the one man try machine; Dan Pearce. Two stunning pieces of individual running, twisting an turning defenders for fun and the CABs were back in it. An Andy Knight touchdown, following some power driving from the forwards - which is what the gameplan was set out to be, resulted in the CABs going into half-time 22-21 up.

Some real honest chat from the players, in the dressing room at half-time, and a re-set of the game objectives resulted in the CABs starting to exert their power play. The set piece was providing good ball off scrum and lineout and the half-backs were using their boot judiciously to pin the flagging RWB team into their half and 22. This period of play was proper CABs and what the coaching team had been emphasizing all week about how to approach this game. Further scores from Brandon Rowley, James McFarlane and Ryan Westren put the game to bed.

Although the RWB 10 had other ideas and some lovely kicking resulted in two late scores for the away team and their first try bonus point. A blank league weekend will see the 2s take centre stage before an away game at Bournemouth and chance to get build on the home momentum and gain the first away win of the season
